"Girlie Jar" and the Heartland Film Festival!
It has been a minute or two since I posted a new article on my blog. However, I believe this is a perfect moment to share my experience of having my short "Girlie Jar" in the Heartland Festival. If I were to describe this experience with one word it would be, AMAZING! Yes, I was able to share my animated short to the Indianapolis community and see their reaction. The turn out to the festival was better than my expecations. I went to a screening at Heartland once or twice before but never understood the scale. This festival has so many die hard followers, I felt such a warm welcome even though I was local.
As a local director wtih an offcial selection in the Heartland, I know the thousand of hours I put into the production were worth it. Hearing audiences respond to the production during the screenings allowed me to realize how much I have contributed to the commuinty. Backing up this feeling, I experienced the thoughts of a few of audience members at the brunch and after the screening, which sealed the deal. At the end of the week I was wearing my heart on my sleve with a big smile. Knowing that my work is appreciated by the community was what I have sought for my whole life.
The festivities at the fest were great. Opening night featured "The Way" directed by Emilo Esteves and stared Martin Scheen. The theater was filled to the brim with a buzz nobody could stop. The vibe from the showing carried over into the after party with a dessert reception. Keeping the pace going the gala brought out the appreciation all the filmakers have for the festival. In addition to the after party at the Murat. Every festival needs a cherry on top and the showing of "Shuffle" was just that. "Shuffle" is directed by Kurt Kueene with lead actor Tj Thyne, this showing was nothing less than amazing. Following the closing ceremony at the Jazz Kitchen Heartland put on an after party with food, drinks, and music. It was a great last moment to say goodbye to new friendships made over the week.
If you are a film maker, film buff, or a local Indy resident who enjoys a good movie check out the 2012 Heartland Film Festival. Trust me as a film maker who particapated in 2011 you will not regret the experience. I can not wait to submit and premeier my next short at this festival. Many thanks goes out to the Heartland team and the Indianpolis community.
